Copa America: Colombia into semis

Defending champions Colombia are through to the semi-finals of the Copa America after a 2-0 win over Costa Rica.

Two goals in the final five minutes of the first half were enough to book their passage into the final four.

Abel Aguilar opened the scoring on 43 minutes and Tressor Moreno made it 2-0 in injury time, scoring from the penalty spot after Costa Rican goalkeeper Ricardo Gonzalez brought him down.

Colombia will now face Argentina, who squeezed past hosts Peru 1-0.

Four minutes after Luciano Figueroa’s header crashed back off the bar, a 61st-minute free-kick from Carlos Tevez was enough to send Marcelo Bielsa’s side into the semi-finals.

A Peru side missing three key players through injury – Claudio Pizarro, Jefferson Farfan and Flavio Maestri – did come close, but Nolberto Solano’s free-kick came back off the crossbar.

Argentina lost captain Roberto Ayala, dismissed for a second yellow card, with eight minutes to go but it did not prevent them from reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 1993.
