Canaries swoop for Charlton

Norwich have signed defender Simon Charlton from Bolton.

Norwich have signed defender Simon Charlton from Bolton.

The 32-year-old full-back has joined for an initial £250,000 (€375,149) fee on a two-year deal, with the Canaries having the option of extending his contract for a further year.

Charlton has enjoyed spells in the Premier League with Southampton and Bolton, and City boss Nigel Worthington hopes his experience will help last year’s Division One champions adapt to life in the top flight.

Worthington told the club’s official website, www.canaries.premiumtv.co.uk: “I am delighted to get a player of Simon’s quality. He is a very experienced Premiership player and a first-class professional.

“Simon has great energy and great enthusiasm for the game and is a good quality addition to the squad for the Premier League.”
