Drogs still searching for new players
Drogheda United manager Paul Doolin is still looking to sign new players despite his recent activity in the transfer market.
High-flying United, who were last night surprise losers at home to struggling St Patrick’s Athletic, have already signed former Irish schoolboy international striker Mark Leech and Dutch left-back Jermaine Sandvliet this month while promising young centre-back Steven Gray has committed to a new two-year deal this week despite offers to move to bigger clubs at home and in England.
But Doolin, who gave a debut to Dutch left-back Jermaine Sandvliet in a 5-1 friendly victory against Portadown last Monday, said he was still looking to strengthen his squad, with Slovakian centre-forward Tomas Metved, currently on trial at United Park, his next possible signing.
“The Slovakian (Metved) is a 30-year-old striker who’s played in the Hungarian first division, in Germany and the Slovak first division, so he has a bit of pedigree. He did well against Portadown and I would be interested in him.
"We’ll see how it goes. You’re always looking for a couple of players to add to what you’ve got. The players already here have been excellent for us so far and you don’t want to upset things too much. “
We’re third in the table at the moment which is brilliant, but there’s a long way to go and there is room for a couple more players.”
