Birmingham confident of getting Chelsea pair
Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan is confident Blues will complete the signing of Jesper Gronkjaer and his former Chelsea team-mate Mario Melchiot.
Sullivan claims Birmingham have “an 80% chance” of landing winger Gronkjaer and right-back Melchiot by the end of the week.
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has been tracking Gronkjaer all through the summer and wants to add him to newcomers Emile Heskey, Muzzy Izzet and Julian Gray.
The Danish international had looked to be on his way to Sevilla but Sullivan is optimistic he will move to St Andrews.
Meanwhile, Bruce will tomorrow hold talks in Amsterdam with Melchiot, who is available as a Bosman signing.
Sullivan told the Birmingham Evening Mail: “We are very hopeful on both players. I’d say the chances of them joining are about 80%.
“Jesper has indicated that he will come, via his agent, and now its down to sorting out a few financial details.
“Steve is going to see Mario and we think he will also say yes but, again, we would then have to reach agreement on a monetary matter.
“There might be some stumbling blocks but we like to think the Blues board are like the Mounties – we always get our man!”
