Dundee say Celtic still in hunt for Nacho Novo

Dundee denied today that Celtic’s chances of signing Nacho Novo were dead.

Reports during the week suggested that the Parkhead giants had pulled out of the race to sign the Spaniard despite holding talks and agreeing a fee with his employers.

That seemed to indicate that the striker had set his heart on a move to Rangers even though the Ibrox side had failed to meet Dundee’s valuation of the player.

But the Dens Park club revealed today that Celtic assured them that their interest was very much alive.

A Dundee spokesperson said: “Celtic made an offer for him which was accepted by the club and Rangers made an offer which wasn’t.

“It’s just fallen short of the asking price and that’s the current situation.

“Nacho until now has not made up his mind yet as to whether he wants to join Celtic."

It was even suggested today that Rangers were so close to agreeing a deal with Dundee that the highly-rated former Raith player would be training at Murray Park on Monday.

But the club’s representative laughed off that report saying: “The only way he could be training with Rangers on Monday is if he has signed for Rangers but he is still a Dundee player.

“There have been no developments regarding that as far as I’m aware.”
