Longford appeal to fans

Longford Town have appealed to their fans to help get Flancare Park into shape for their UEFA Cup home tie at the end of the month.

The FAI Cup holders are redeveloping sections of Flancare Park in an effort to stage their UEFA Cup qualifying round second leg tie with Liechtenstein’s FC Vaduz on July 29.

At present, only the stand side of the Strokestown Road ground is open and the eircom League premier division club are up against the clock if they are to host Vaduz in their own stadium.

“We need to do the necessary work to get the home game on in Longford,” a club spokesman said.

“From this weekend we would be glad of any assistance we can get towards getting the seats re-installed behind the goals and the other bits and pieces that are needed.

“Work will be going on every evening next week so if fans can lend a hand, we can get the ground looking its best.”
