Malaga midfielder reveals Liverpool interest

Malaga midfielder Miguel Angel could be on his way to the Premiership after revealing Liverpool had contacted his agent over a possible move to Anfield.

Miguel Angel has been a regular in the Malaga side for the past four seasons but the appointment of Spanish coach Rafael Benitez as Liverpool boss could open the door to a lucrative move to England.

“I know they spoke to my agent on Friday, but I don’t know if there is a formal offer yet,” Miguel Angel told Diario AS.

However, the former Barcelona youth player insisted he was content with life in the south of Spain and had not demanded a move.

“I am very happy at Malaga and if I leave I want to go to the club who will pay the most to Malaga,” he added.

Miguel Angel’s declarations were backed up by the club’s technical secretary Manolo Hierro.

“We have to admit that although Liverpool may not have shown direct interest in the player, they have asked about his situation, although they have not made us a formal offer,” he said.

And it appears Benitez has also been casting his eye over several other Malaga stars after the club’s ‘B’ team coach Antonio Tapia revealed he had spoken to the former Valencia boss about certain players.

Tapia said: “I have a good relationship with Rafael Benitez because we studied together. He called me a while ago asking for information about Calatayud, Alexis, Josemi and Miguel Angel – it was a conversation between coaches.”
