UEFA today staunchly defended Swiss referee Urs Meier’s decision to disallow Sol Campbell’s "goal" in the Euro 2004 quarter-final against Portugal last Thursday.

UEFA today staunchly defended Swiss referee Urs Meier’s decision to disallow Sol Campbell’s "goal" in the Euro 2004 quarter-final against Portugal last Thursday.

The body’s referees committee produced television pictures which they claimed supported the official’s decision to rule out the goal and blasted some sections of the English media for the way they had treated Meier.
