Blades pull off Barry Hayles signing

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock today hailed Barry Hayles as “the jewel in my crown” after signing the striker on a free transfer from Fulham.

The finer details of the deal are currently being ironed out, although Hayles is expected to sign a three-year contract ahead of officially joining the Blades on July 1.

Hayles becomes Warnock’s second capture in three days following the signing of Jon Harley, also from Fulham.

Sheffield United beat the likes of Leeds, West Brom and Norwich to get 32-year-old Hayles’s signature.

“He is a striker of proven quality and one I know will be able to bring something to our side,” said Warnock.

“He has demonstrated he can score goals and will give us that edge up front we need, so to say I am delighted is an understatement.

“There were plenty of other good clubs in for Barry. He had a chance to stay in the Premiership, so we can be proud of the fact that he has come here.

Warnock is expected to make further additions to the squad with two more signings before the weekend.
