Switzerland striker Alexander Frei could still miss his side’s Euro 2004 Group B clash with France tonight after UEFA appealed against the decision to clear him of spitting against England.

The Rennes forward was acquitted yesterday by UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Committee but new video evidence has now come to light.

Previous television footage of the incident involving England midfielder Steven Gerrard was deemed inconclusive but European football’s governing body have now opted to challenge the finding of their own committee.

A decision is expected later this afternoon on whether Frei is free to face the French in Coimbra this evening.
