Wigan beat Leeds to Graham signing

Wigan have completed the signing of Torquay striker David Graham after making an improved offer.

The Latics had an initial Ā£200,000 (€303,000) bid for the 25-year-old Scot rejected, but landed their man by tabling an improved sum of Ā£215,000 (€326,000), beating off interest from Leeds for the 23-goal striker into the bargain.

ā€œThe deal is now done and we must be happy with the terms given that we didn’t pay any initial fee to bring David here in the first place,ā€ Torquay chairman Mike Bateson told the Gulls official website, torquayunited.premiumtv.co.uk.

ā€œOn Monday it looked as though Leeds had won the battle, their offer to us was higher, but they were unable to match the personal terms offered to David by Wigan.

ā€œWe tried our best to keep him and I was hoping the deal would fall apart at the last minute, but he’s gone and I’m sure all our supporters will join me in wishing him the best for the future.ā€

Graham arrived at Plainmoor from Dunfermline in July 2001 and his eye-catching form last season alerted several clubs in both the First Division and Premiership.
