Relief for Derry after goal rut
Derry City 2 Dublin City 1
Derry finally ended their 7-match goal famine by scoring twice inside the opening 20 minutes to leave Vikings four points adrift at the foot of the table.
Michael Holt gave the Derry fans some long awaited cheer when slotting home a fourth minute penalty after Paul Crowley had handled a Gerry Gill cross.
Sean Hargan then doubled Derry’s lead when drilling in the rebound after Brendan Kennedy could only parry a shot from Ciaran Martyn.
Ben Whelehan was sent off for Vikings on 57 minutes but they battled back to score four minutes later through Gary O’Neill, but it was too little too late.
