Drogheda still second
Shamrock Rovers 1 Drogheda United 2
Goals from Declan O’Brien and David Freeman kept Drogheda's superb run going as they stay second in the table.
Rovers' debutant Fiachra McArdle hit the Drogheda bar inside the first minute, but that was as good as it got for Liam Buckley’s side.
O’Brien punished poor defending to put Drogheda in front on 35 minutes from Aidan Lynch’s through ball.
More sloppy defending gifted Drogheda their second on 69 minutes with O’Brien setting up substitute Freeman to drill home from 20 yards.
Substitute Steven Gough gave Rovers hope with a 74th minute penalty.
But Jason McGuinness being sent off four minutes later for a second bad foul on O’Brien ended Rovers’ revival.
