Vinny Sullivan gave Waterford a 39th-minute lead before Darryl Byrne equalised in first-half stoppage time.

Cork remain second ahead of Waterford only on goal difference but both clubs now trail leaders Shelbourne by five points.

The Shels also had to settle for a point at home to Bohemians in a match that finished goalless.

At the other end of the table St Patrick’s Athletic staged a comeback 3-1 win over Dublin City who took a 16th-minute lead through Christie O’Connor.

Kieran Foley equalised 12 minutes later before goals from Aidan O’Keefe and Keith Dunne in the second period settled the encounter.
