Charlton to be Fair Play representatives
Charlton have been confirmed as the Football Association’s representatives in the draw for an extra place in next season’s UEFA Cup via the Fair Play League.
The Addicks finished third in the disciplinary-based rankings, behind winners Arsenal and Chelsea.
However, with both of those clubs having already secured a place in the Champions League through the Barclaycard Premiership, Charlton will now go forward to the ballot for the extra places.
In the last two years, England have finished top of the overall European fair play rankings from the 13 participating countries, enabling Ipswich and Manchester City to claim places in the UEFA Cup.
However, with Sweden leading the way at the last count, England’s representatives look set to go into the draw for the two extra places.
Charlton face an anxious wait, though, as UEFA do not allocate places until June 8, leaving little time for changes to pre-season plans as qualification would mean a two-legged UEFA Cup tie on July 15 and 29.
