West Ham manager Alan Pardew decided to tinker despite his side’s impressive recent form, recalling Tomas Repka in defence and David Connolly up front.

Anton Ferdinand dropped to the bench, while Don Hutchison failed to make the squad. Steve Lomas also returned after recovering from an illness.

Ipswich manager Joe Royle recalled Richard Naylor for Finnish international Shefki Kuqi and Tommy Miller was named in the starting line-up after shaking off a bruised foot.

But Chris Bart-Williams had to be content with a place among the substitutes despite recovering from his back injury.
