Maradona sedated to keep him in clinic

Diego Maradona is being continuously sedated to stop him leaving the clinic where he is being treated for drug addiction, the ex-footballer’s lawyer has revealed.

The Argentinian media have also reported that the former Barcelona and Napoli player has occasionally been tied to his bed.

“He wants to leave and go to Cuba, so he protests. He’s quite angry,” lawyer Roberto Damboriana said.

“When he’s awake he becomes aggressive, so he’s given medication and sedated,” Damboriana explained.

Maradona has been in the Parque Private Clinic since Sunday, an institution specialising in drugs recovery treatments in Ituzaingo, a western suburb of Buenos Aires. It was his family’s decision to move him there.

“After all that has happened, I feel this is the last chance for him to recover,” Maradona’s personal physician Alfredo Cahe said.
