Norwich train sights on young Gunner

Nigel Worthington has set his sights on making Arsenal hot-shot David Bentley his first signing of the summer as Norwich gear up for an assault on the Premiership.

Norwich said farewell to the Football League with a 3-1 victory over Crewe on Sunday and Worthington revealed afterwards he is preparing a raid for the Gunners youngster.

The England Under-21 international has shown glimpses of his huge potential since breaking into the first-team squad at Highbury and could soon be on his way to Carrow Road on a season-long loan.

“Technically David Bentley is a very good player,” Worthington told the Eastern Daily Press. “He’s highly thought of at Arsenal and I think he would add something to us. We’ve watched him and we like him.

“I have made an inquiry about bringing him here on a long-term loan.”
