Maradona recovering but will remain in hospital
Diego Maradona has recovered from the “feeding transgression” which forced his return to an Argentina hospital this week but the legendary footballer will not be released for now.
As his condition has now improved he is ready to be transferred to another institution to continue his recovery but hospital director Daniel Belocopit revealed today that some clinics are wary of admitting the 43-year-old.
Belocopit said: “We’re not talking about whether he is fit enough to board a plane or not.
“We asked some clinics and they’re afraid of having a patient like this one. Finding a new destination is a problem.
“Some other patients are tired of having Maradona in the clinic, because there has been some disturbances, like shouting.
“Diego does not want to be in a hospital bed, and that’s why he’s not an easy patient.”
Maradona is Argentina’s most famous sportsman after leading the national team to World Cup glory in 1986 but his career was dogged by drug problems and his health has been very poor in recent years.
He was hospitalised in the intensive care unit with severe cardiac and pulmonary problems at the end of April but was released.
Maradona then spent six days at a country house receiving friends, enjoying a barbecue and playing golf before being forced to return to the Suizo Argentina Clinic six days later on Wednesday because of the “feeding transgression”.
