Torquay claimed the third automatic promotion place in Nationwide Division Three with a 2-1 win at Southend.

Early goals from Steve Woods and David Graham meant the Gulls went up at the expense of Huddersfield, despite Lawrie Dudfield’s 17th-minute reply for Southend.
