High drama at Stamford Bridge
Half time - Chelsea 2 Monaco 1
Half-time at Stamford Bridge, and it has been a see-saw battle for a coveted place in the Champions League final.
Chelsea’s already vocal home support erupted into song when Frank Lampard scored on 44 minutes, giving the blues a 2-0 advantage – a scoreline that would see them through on the away goals rule.
Just one minute later the crowd was silenced however when a high, looping header to Chelsea’s far post saw Monaco’s Hugo Ibarra score his first goal for the side on the goal-line with a scrappy effort that stood despite protestations for handball.
Jesper Gronkjaer received a booking for continuing to argue the point as the Chelsea went into the half-time break 2-1 up, but now needing a goal to tie, and two to win on aggregate.
