Porto book place in Champions League final
Deportivo La Coruna 0 Porto 1 (Porto win 1-0 on aggregate)
Porto marched into the Champions League final thanks to Derlei’s penalty against 10-man Deportivo La Coruna in the Riazor stadium.
After a dull goalless draw in the first leg in Portugal two weeks ago, both teams had opportunities in an entertaining opening half this time, with Juan Carlos wasting a golden opportunity for Deportivo and Ribeiro Maniche coming close for the visitors.
Derlei’s spot-kick after an hour, awarded after Cesar Martin fouled Deco, gave Porto the lead they just about deserved and after Nourredine Naybet was sent off for the home side midway through the second half, any hopes off a comeback went with him.
Porto coach Jose Mourinho will now prepare his troops for a showdown in Gelsenkirchen later this month against either Chelsea, the club he has been repeatedly linked with, or Monaco.
