Nigel Worthington has been named Nationwide Division One manager of the month for April after steering Norwich back into the Barclaycard Premiership.

Five successive wins in the month saw Norwich end their nine-year top-flight exile – and they head to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light tomorrow night when they could win the title.

It is the third time Worthington – who last week began his planning for the Premiership by telling club great Iwan Roberts and back-up goalkeeper Paul Crichton they will not be offered new contracts – has won the award this season.

Brian Little landed the Second Division accolade for the first time this term after transforming the fortunes of Tranmere.

The Prenton Park outfit took 16 points from a possible 18, but their late run has come too late for a play-off place.

Doncaster manager Dave Penney took the Division Three award after leading his club to the title.
