Jones agrees Saints switch
Southampton new-boy Kenwyne Jones today revealed he signed for the Saints after turning down offers from Scottish giants Rangers and Nationwide Division One promotion hopefuls West Ham.
The Trinidad and Tobago international penned a pre-contract agreement with the St Mary’s side at the weekend, committing him to joining in the summer.
The 19-year-old utility man, who moves from his home country club W Connection for an undisclosed fee, sparkled on trial at Southampton – just as he did at Ibrox and Upton Park.
Jones told saintsfc.co.uk: “Rangers and West Ham both wanted me but Southampton feels like home.
“It is a good club and a nice place to live. My girlfriend and son have come with me and they’re delighted with living here.
“It’s been my dream to play at the highest level ever since I first kicked a ball around at the age of six.
“I’m confident I can do well here. I’ll have to wait for my chance but, when it comes, I will have to take it with both hands.”
Jones has moved on a two-year student visa from a Commonwealth country, which allows him to work in England.
