Longford jumped three places up the table as a Sean Francis goal gave them their first home win of the season.

Town rode their luck to go in at the break with their-match winning lead.

Derry’s Michael Holt had rattled the Town bar while Clive Delaney missed a sitter before the midlanders went in front on 38 minutes.

Dessie Baker’s cross was headed down by Brian Byrne and Francis drilled his shot home.

Francis shot against the bar early in the second half before Town were deprived what looked a clear penalty for a blatant trip by Delaney on Baker.

Meanwhile in the first division, thescores at final whistle in following matches were:

Limerick 0 Monaghan 0

Sligo Rovers 4 Kilkenny City 1

Kildare Co 0 UCD 0

Play is on-going in the Cobh Ramblers v Dundalk match.
