Beckham blasted by pretender to Real throne
Potential Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Sobrino has launched a second, altogether more vicious attack on David Beckham.
The Madrid lawyer last week claimed the England skipper and former Manchester United midfielder may be sold if he is successful in his bid to win control of the Spanish giants.
Now Sobrino has gone as far as to accuse Beckham of damaging âthe image of the clubâ following alleged revelations about his private life.
Sobrino is quoted in The Sun as saying: âBeckham is a great player but all this stuff about him as a celebrity is overshadowing him as a footballer.
âThe dressing room has suffered as a result of all the scandal about Beckham.
âThere is too much written about playersâ wives and their lovers and this is very damaging to the image of the club.
âIn my plan if I became president, as I have said a number of times, I would listen to offers for David Beckham.
âToo many of the stars of Real Madrid are appearing in the news for all the wrong reasons. All this stuff about Beckham and parties is something people here donât like.
âIt has caused a bad atmosphere around the dressing room, as demonstrated by recent defeats.
âWe want our players to be stars for footballing reasons, and only for footballing reasons. There isnât the level of discipline amongst the stars that the fans want.â
Sobrino, 35, even issues an open invitation to Chelsea supremo Roman Abramovich to express an interest in signing Beckham.
âI know that Abramovich is interested and it wouldnât be inconvenient for us to listen to his offer,â added Sobrino.
âI donât know him and I havenât met him. But I would like to get in touch with him further down the line. I would love to speak to him.â
Sobrino added that coach Carlos Queiroz would be another likely departure if he takes over, and he all but ruled out a move for Ruud van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry or Ronaldinho.
