Maradona taken to hospital
Former international football star Diego Maradona has been taken into hospital, hours after watching his former team play a match in the Argentine league, his personal doctor said today.
Dr Alfredo Cahe told The Associated Press that he would have no immediate comment on what caused Maradona to seek medical treatment yesterday.
“Maradona has been admitted and his condition is being held in reserve,” Dr Cahe said.
The ex-footballer was being treated at the Suizo-Argentina private clinic, he added. He went to hospital after watching league leader Boca Juniors beat Nueva Chicago 2-0 at La Bombonera stadium.
Maradona, who has had drug and medical problems in the past, retired from professional soccer in 1997.
In his 20-year career, he won Italian and Argentine league titles and led Argentina to the World Cup title in 1986 and second place in 1990.
