Chelsea blew the chance to open up a six-point gap on Manchester United as they were held to a goalless draw for the second successive home game.

With United losing at Portsmouth in the lunchtime kick-off, the Blues failed to take home advantage against struggling Everton and – just as against Middlesbrough last week – the match ended 0-0.

Frank Lampard went closest for Chelsea when he hit the bar after 24 minutes and the post after 84 minutes, while Wayne Rooney was denied by a good reflex save from Marco Ambrosio after 32 minutes.
