Dodd ruled out for rest of season

Southampton captain Jason Dodd has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Dodd was carried off during the second half of Southampton’s 4-1 Barclaycard Premiership win at Molineux on Saturday following a late challenge by Wolves striker Henri Camara.

Initial fears were the 33-year-old could be facing a career-threatening injury, but scans revealed a tear of the medial ligament which will put the full-back out for between six and eight weeks.

“There is a tear of the medial ligament, but there is no obvious other damage,” said Southampton physio Jim Joyce on the club’s official website, www.saintsfc.co.uk.

“We will have him seen by a knee specialist as a precaution although we are not expecting him to need surgery.

“The scan seems to show he has got off lightly. We did worry there might be a possibility of cruciate damage. But touch wood, that does not seem to be the case.

“He is not going to play again this season – so he can take his time, get himself right and be ready for pre-season.”
