Celtic and Sweden defender Johan Mjallby admits he may be forced to call time on his playing career at the end of the current campaign if his latest injury comeback fails.

Celtic and Sweden defender Johan Mjallby admits he may be forced to call time on his playing career at the end of the current campaign if his latest injury comeback fails.

The commanding centre-back will line up for Sweden tonight to earn his 45th cap in the friendly against England.

However, the 32-year-old concedes that the next few weeks will tell him whether or not his knee can still stand up to the rigours of professional football.

“My career is in danger,” he told Swedish newspaper Goteborgs-Posten.

“This game (England) and the next six weeks are of vital importance. It’s now or never. If my knee won’t be back to 100% I am thinking about quitting football.”

Mjallby, who will partner Aston Villa’s Olof Mellberg at the heart of Sweden’s defence against England in Gothenburg, has been troubled by his knee injury for most of the season.
