Kennedy gets call-up for Scotland
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill revealed today young defender John Kennedy has been called up to the Scotland squad for the friendly with Romania on Wednesday.
The Scotland Under-21 skipper has been promoted by Berti Vogts following his classy displays against Barcelona and Rangers this week.
The 20-year-old joins team-mates Jackie McNamara, Robert Douglas and Stephen Pearson – and his manager does not expect him to be a “one-cap wonder”.
O’Neill said after today’s 2-1 win at Rangers: “John has just been called into the senior squad by Berti Vogts which is a great boost for him and I am delighted.
“He has played at right-back, left-back and at centre-half and he has adjusted accordingly to who’s alongside him.
“He deserves to be in the side, but whether somebody plays international football or not it is really not my call.
“I know sometimes players go in and are one-cap wonders, but I don’t think John Kennedy is of that making. The last few months he has proved himself to be a good young player.
“Considering he wasn’t at his best against Hibs in the CIS Insurance Cup he has come roaring back and is terrific again.”
