Lennon sings Larsson's praises
Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon insists striker Henrik Larsson is undoubtedly among the top strikers in world football – and would score goals in any team to prove that fact.
The former Sweden international enhanced his legendary status at Parkhead when he became the club’s joint-third all-time top scorer with Stevie Chalmers on 231 goals, while equalling Bobby Lennox’s record league haul of 167.
Critics still question whether he would have been so successful elsewhere in Europe but one of his team-mates is in no doubt that Larsson is up there with the world’s best.
Lennon explained: “I would say he’s as good as anything I’ve seen on the football pitch.
“I haven’t seen the Thierry Henrys, Ruud van Nistelrooys, Andy Coles and Dennis Bergkamps close up.
“Bergkamp, in the 1998 season, was the best thing on a football pitch that I had ever seen but Henrik, in terms of his all-round game, goalscoring and his appreciation and awareness of the game, is as good as anything I’ve seen.
“You could put Henrik in any team and he would score goals.”
