Glazer adds to United stake

Malcolm Glazer has increased his stake in Manchester United to 16.69% after buying one million ordinary shares.

The billionaire American businessman, who owns former Super Bowl champions the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, refused to rule out a bid to buy United earlier this month when he increased his stake to 16.31%.

His acquisition of more shares will spark further speculation of a takeover battle with fellow shareholders and Irish racing tycoons John Magnier and JP McManus, but Glazer could also decide to sell his stake in the club.

Glazer's stake still leaves him some way behind the 28.8% Magnier and McManus hold through their Cubic Expression company.
