Estudiantes boss Carlos Salvador Bilardo, who coached Argentina to win the 1986 World Cup, was almost arrested at half-time in the 3-0 loss to River Plate after holding up a champagne bottle in the first half.

Police went to arrest him for violating a national law that prohibits alcohol being drunk in football stadiums.

But he claimed the bottle was full of soft drink and “negotiated” with the policemen to wait until the end of the match to solve the problem.

“The experts will analyse the bottle and see there was no alcohol there,” Bilardo said.
