Substitute Hernan Crespo returned from injury to clinch Chelsea’s third win in a row 12.

It was a good night for latest signing Scott Parker also. His strike on 17 minutes opened his account for the Blues at Fratton Park.

Battling Portsmouth made their expensive visitors work hard but in the end they did not have quite enough quality to compete although Patrick Berger hit a post and Aiyegbeni Yakubu missed a sitter.
