Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a successful return to action tonight for Manchester United’s reserves.
The Norwegian striker, who has been recovering from knee surgery, looked lively in the 60 minutes he was on the pitch in the 3-0 success over Aston Villa at Altrincham.
He had an early chance well saved by Stefan Postma and also shot over, after Kieran Richardson had given United’s second string the lead following a cross by David Bellion.
Solskjaer’s first appearance in a United shirt since September 16 ended on the hour when he came off to applause all round, with Sir Alex Ferguson joining in.
Chris Eagles and a James O’Connor own goal completed the scoring in the second half to inflict a first defeat of the season on FA Premier League northern section leaders Villa.
