Mali coach hails Kanoute contribution

Mali coach Henri Stambouli believes Tottenham striker Frederic Kanoute could fire his adopted country a long way in the African Nations Cup.

The French-born forward, who angered his club by deciding to represent the land of his ancestors, has scored three goals to help Mali set up a quarter-final match with Guinea.

“Even though we were in a difficult group, with Kanoute we have qualified for the last eight,” said Stambouli.

“His positive attitude has helped change the mentality of the other players.

“He has scored some important goals and with his ability we can go a long way.”
