Dundee Utd seek Lithuania investment

Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson has confirmed he has discussed a possible link-up with the millionaire chief of Lithuanian club FC Kaunas.

Thompson is looking for possible investment, and was keen to speak to Kaunas' counterpart Vladimiras Romanovas, who has also been linked with Dundee and Dunfermline.

But Thompson concedes those initial talks may not go any further.

He said: “There is hardly a day passes when I’m not examining some means of bringing new investment into Dundee United and, yes, we did speak to the Lithuanians. But that was weeks ago and nothing has changed since then.

“Like the majority of SPL clubs, we would not turn away money if, legally, a deal could be done and it was in our best interests to do it.

“But, often in these situations, there is a difference between what is talked about and what actually happens.

“And I can tell you I’ve seen nothing on paper which suggests we are moving forward in any way. That might change but I’m not holding my breath.”
