An early second-half goal from Sheffield United’s Peter Ndlovu proved in vain as Egypt came from behind to beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in their African Nations Cup Group C match in Sfax, Tunisia.

A freak effort from Tamer Abdelhamid and then a disputed goal from Mohammed Barakat ensured the north Africans prevailed at the expense of the Warriors who are making their debut appearance in the tournament.

Ndlovu’s header from Charles Yohane’s cross had made for a sensational start to the second period and stung the Egyptians into an impressive comeback.

In the other game in the group, cup holders Cameroon were held to a 1-1 draw by Algeria.
