Adams to go after young blood
Leicester fans can expect a u-turn in Micky Adams’ transfer policy with the Foxes manager intent on bringing in young blood to supplement his ageing squad.
Adams admits he took the short-term option last summer by bringing in several veteran players on free transfers after gaining promotion to the Premiership and he nicknamed them “Micky’s Misfits”.
Striker Les Ferdinand has proved to be a successful acquisition at the age of 37 as he helped the Foxes to become one of the Premiership’s leading scorers.
But now Adams is to look for younger legs to freshen up his squad – starting with the arrival of 23-year-old midfielder Peter Canero from Kilmarnock for an undisclosed fee.
The Scotland B international will formally complete the move south of the border on Tuesday and will be in contention for City’s next match against Aston Villa on January 31 at The Walkers Stadium.
Adams said: “What we have to decide is the policy we take now and my thoughts are to try and get some younger players into the squad for the benefit of the club in future years.
“What we had to do at the start of the season was a short term view which cannot be good for the club but was all we could do.
“We have got some youth in Jordan Stewart and Matt Heath. We can’t buy a Premier League player because we have not got the money.
“So the next step to consider is, ‘are there any youngsters who are not right now in terms of keeping you in the Premiership but who might come good in a year or two?’
“My thinking is let’s target a couple of decent youngsters to get fresh legs into the squad. That’s the way I am going because I don’t have the money to go the other way.”
