Meeting rocked by double resignation
Today’s eircom League/FAI meeting to discuss a proposed merger of the domestic league within the Football Association’s structures reportedly saw both League chairman Brendan Dillon and General manager Tommy Allen tender their resignations.
The meeting, hosted at Dublin’s CityWest hotel, began with a presentation made by the FAI’s officers to eircom League club members and delegates, on their vision for the future of the domestic senior league.
That followed a heated meeting in the afternoon, chaired by Dillon and Allen, at which the merits of an amalgamation between the eircom League and the FAI were debated.
Dillon and Allen made it known to the 22 club representatives present that they were "implacably opposed to the merger", and offered their resignations.
A further meeting between the bodies will take place on Monday, with a media release to be put forward by the eircom League within the next 24 hours.
