Vikings duo join Dundalk

Dundalk have announced the signing of three further players in the club’s bid to rejoin the top flight ranks of the eircom League.

Versatile midfielder Robbie Dunne and goalkeeper John Browne have joined following their release from First Division champions Dublin City, whilst former Drogheda United striker Ciaran Quinn has also been added.

It brings the number of close season signings at Oriel Park to five, with Browne being the second 'keeper snapped up after Chris Bennion’s move two weeks ago and Monaghan striker Trevor Vaughan completed his move south last Thursday.

Club chairman Des Denning said: "These signings will go a long way to strengthening the squad. I feel we are going in the right direction with the quality of players we have added."

Dunne is happy to be at an ambitious club. "I spoke to a lot of clubs since the season ended but Dundalk were the one who impressed me the most. I have always felt they are a massive club and should be in the Premier Division, challenging for honours," said the 24-year-old.

"My first coach was Alan O'Neill and I also played with Peter Hanrahan so I was well aware of the history of the club. I always enjoyed playing at Oriel Park although I have to confess to being part of the UCD team that relegated Dundalk in 1999. But there is never a small crowd here and the fans are terrific."

32-year-old Browne has signed a one-year-deal with the Co Louth club, having enjoyed spells at Longford Town, Monaghan United, Kilkenny City and Dublin City.

"I’m looking forward to the season already and the battle for number one with Chris Bennion," he said.

"The First Division is extremely tough and every match has to be treated like a cup final."

Ciaran Quinn’s signature marks the club’s fifth signing, as the 21-year-old front man hopes to find first team football following eighteen months on the fringes at Drogheda United.
