Manchester City have taken Icelandic international keeper Arni Gautur Arason on trial as they look to fill the void left by David Seaman’s shoulder injury.

Manchester City have taken Icelandic international keeper Arni Gautur Arason on trial as they look to fill the void left by David Seaman’s shoulder injury.

Arason, 28, is available on a Bosman transfer after being released by Norwegian outfit Rosenborg and could sign a short-term deal if manager Kevin Keegan is impressed by his training ground performances.

However, as the newcomer is not eligible for tomorrow’s FA Cup replay at Leicester and Seaman will be out for between three to six weeks, Kevin Ellegaard will continue in goal, with Kasper Schmeichel heading to the midlands after tonight’s Youth Cup tie against Manchester United.

Claudio Reyna (calf) is still missing for the Blues, who have now gone 14 games without a win, but Sun Jihai is back after missing Saturday’s defeat at Portsmouth through suspension.

Provisional squad: Ellegaard, Schmeichel, Distin, Dunne, Sommeil, Wiekens, Jihai, Bosvelt, McManaman, Sinclair, Wright-Phillips, Tarnat, Tiatto, Sibierski, Barton, Anelka, Fowler, Macken, Jordan.
