New on-loan goalkeeper Paul Jones goes straight into Liverpool’s squad for the home clash with Aston Villa after completing a one-month move from Southampton.

New on-loan goalkeeper Paul Jones goes straight into Liverpool’s squad for the home clash with Aston Villa after completing a one-month move from Southampton.

Jones has been rushed in because Chris Kirkland and Jerzy Dudek are both out injured and Liverpool only have rookie Patrice Luzi and youth team player Paul Harrison available.

Jones’ arrival could also coincide with Michael Owen’s first start in a match since the UEFA Cup game with Bucharest in November.

Owen was on the bench for the midweek win at Chelsea, where Liverpool revived their Champions League ambitions and moved into fifth place.

However, they are still without Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Steve Finnan and Milan Baros.

Provisional squad: Jones, Henchoz, Hyypia, Biscan, Riise, Traore, Diouf, Murphy, Hamann, Cheyrou, Owen, Heskey, Kewell, Smicer, Le Tallec, Luzi, Pongolle, Diao, Otsemobor.
