Larsson will see out contract, says agent

Henrik Larsson’s agent was adamant today that the Celtic striker would see out his contract with the club this season.

There has been renewed speculation linking the prolific former Swedish international with moves to Manchester United and Birmingham when the transfer window opens on New Year’s day.

With Celtic eight points clear of Rangers at the top of the Bank of Scotland Premier League, they could be tempted to cash in on Larsson as he will leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.

O’Neill still has slight hopes of persuading him to stay beyond this season but while his representative believes he will not walk out on the club now, he insists that it will different in May.

“Of course he is going to stay at Celtic until the end of the season,” Rob Jansen told the Press Association.

“He has no plans to go anywhere just yet. Yes, there has been a lots of interest shown in Henrik as you might expect.

“But he wants to see out the season. I have spoken to Celtic but they know he will leave this summer.

“He is not thinking about other clubs at the moment. He is focusing on Celtic and he will look at his options in the summer.

“But after that he has no plans to stay after the coming season ends.”

It has been suggested that the speculation has affected Larsson’s form this season but his agent disagrees.

The Swede has still hit the net 19 times this season – the same number of goals as Chris Sutton – and Jansen added: “He wants a big finish at Celtic this season and he is still scoring the goals.”
