Dowie takes over at Palace

Crystal Palace have confirmed the appointment of Iain Dowie as their new manager.

Dowie, the former Northern Ireland, West Ham and Palace striker, resigned from his post at Oldham on Friday and the Second Division club revealed their manager was on his way to the Eagles.

Palace caretaker-boss Kit Symons – standing in after the sacking of Steve Kember last month – was told after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Reading that he would be relieved of his duties.

Dowie, who took over at Boundary Park in May 2002, led the cash-strapped Latics to the play-offs last season, only to be beaten by QPR at the semi-final stage.

His reputation has continued to grow this term and the Irish Football Association were also interested in making the 38-year-old the new manager of Northern Ireland.
