UEFA hand Lennon two-match ban

UEFA today confirmed that Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon has been handed a two-match ban for confronting a referee during the club’s Champions League clash with Lyon.

Lennon vented his frustration at his side’s failure to make the knock-out stages of the Champions League at Swiss referee Urs Meier after his crucial late penalty decision handed the French side the chance to seize victory.

The club will now be without Lennon for the UEFA Cup dates with FK Teplice.

“We can confirm that Neil Lennon received a two-match ban after what happened in Lyon,” said a UEFA spokesman.

“The UEFA control and disciplinary departments imposed the ban for his improper conduct to the referee at the end of that match.

“The club can make an appeal but that must reach the offices here by Sunday,” he added.
