More injury woe for Rangers
Rangers defender Zura Khizanishvili could be out of action for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury, according to the club’s official website.
The Georgian international risks missing the crucial Old Firm derby on January 3 after suffering ligament damage.
The former Dundee man was taken off during the Light Blues’ defeat by Panathinaikos on Tuesday and will now join Shota Arveladze, Craig Moore, Ronald de Boer, Steven Thompson and Mikel Arteta on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, McLeish is still looking to Jean-Alain Boumsong to strengthen his side although former Hearts goalkeeper Gilles Rousset, who is now a FIFA agent, would be surprised if the French international chose Rangers ahead of other suitors thought to include Liverpool and Inter Milan.
Rousset said: “I am very surprised Rangers could sign him as there has been a lot of interest from massive clubs across Europe.
“He has played a few times for the French national team and I think, after Portugal 2004, he will be a big part of the national team, especially when players like Marcel Desailly will play less often.”
But Rangers defender Henning Berg has blasted the team for failing to show the character required against the Greek side.
He said: “We couldn’t take the pressure Panathinaikos put on us at Ibrox and that is very, very disappointing.
“That has happened to Rangers in the Premier League this season as well and we have to make sure we find a solution to the problem.
“The way we played against the Greeks wasn’t good enough for a club like Rangers.”
