Vogts has 'good feeling' about World Cup chances
Berti Vogts has revealed he turned to Scottish Football Association chief executive David Taylor at the end of the World Cup draw and told him to book their hotel for Germany 2006.
The Scotland coach was brimming with confidence after his side were grouped with Italy, Slovenia, Norway, Belarus and Moldova.
And the German immediately declared that Scotland can make it straight to the finals without even needing another play-off decider experience.
Vogts told The Daily Record: “I have a lot of confidence because I think we can qualify.
“When the group was made I turned to my president and said: ‘Now we can book our hotel in
Germany.’
“I have a good feeling about this. I know my team and I know what the players can do.
“We missed the last World Cup, but we have a new team now and the time is right for them.
“We have to aim to finish as one of the best two runners up because then we can avoid the play-offs and I believe we can do that.”
