Derry City are into the play-offs as this victory over Blues ensured they avoided automatic relegation.

In a tense game, Mark Farren scored the only goal and Derry were fortunate, having to make goalmouth clearances on two occasions.

Farren slotted home the only goal of the game in the 20th minute after a scramble in the box.

Waterford United were reduced to ten men in the closing stages when Wayne Fitzgerald was sent off.

Derry must now face Limerick in the play-off semi-finals.
